Introduction to SDL OpenExchange

SDL users are language professionals of the highest caliber. Their experience is invaluable and it is to them we turn first when researching additional features and functionality to further enrich the SDL Trados Studio or SDL MultiTerm user experience, in the product development process.

With SDL OpenExchange we are further extending this invitation to SDL users. By sharing their needs and thoughts, users provide a fertile source of ideas for our Developer Community to mine in their search for new projects to which they can dedicate their creativity.

To support developers’ efforts, SDL offers every resource needed to smoothly turn out quality applications which – critically - are proven to be in demand from our users.  Following approval, they are listed on the SDL OpenExchange website – THE place to promote such applications worldwide. By offering a range of plug-ins and associated applications that will extend and augment the product feature set, we aim to see our users achieve a greater return on their SDL investment, while offering developers a stage to showcase themselves before the industry’s largest translation professional community.

Security and Functional Review

All applications uploaded and submitted for publication on SDL OpenExchange, first go through security and functional testing before being approved. At first all the files are scanned and security checked in a sandboxed environment. Then basic functional testing is undertaken (to check the application or plug-in really does what it claims). After successfully passing security and functional testing, applications or plug-ins are digitally signed and can be published on the SDL OpenExchange website. Applications or plug-ins that are developed by 3rd party developers become available for download from the developers website (SDL OpenExchange will publish a link to the appropriate resource for obtaining the application or plug-in). SDL reserves the right to charge a nominal fee for the functional and security testing.

Support for Plug-ins

Support for any plug-ins and applications is provided by and the responsibility of their developer. The plug-ins are not supported by the SDL Support team, unless they are developed by SDL and the end user has a valid Support contract. When you download a plug-in or application from this site you will be advised whether support is provided, and if so, how to contact the developer for support. Support details are displayed on the individual SDL OpenExchange pages for each application or plug-in.
