How to enter
To be eligible for the competition all you need to do is submit an application (app) to SDL OpenExchange between the 15 February 2012 and 31 August 2012. Only new apps are eligible, so if you submit a great app in the later months of the competition, you are still in with a good chance of winning.
You will need to be a member of the SDL OpenExchange Developer Community to develop an app. If you are not already registered please visit 'Start Developing Applications' to join and receive your Software Development Kit.

These terms and conditions (the “Terms”) describe two competitions organised by SDL plc (“SDL”) and govern eligibility to receive a prize under these competitions.
1. The Eligibility Period for any money prize will operate during the period from February 15th to August 31st, 2012, inclusive. The Eligibility Period for heat 1 of the competition will be February 15th to May 31st. The Eligibility for heat 2 of the competition will be June 1st to August 31st.
2. The competitions are open to any SDL plug-in developer (“Developer” or “you”) who is, throughout the Eligibility Period, a party with SDL to a Registered SDL Plug-in Developer Agreement and who has submitted, under the auspices of that agreement, one or more software application (each an “App”) which is available for download by users from the SDL Open Exchange website (“SDL OpenExchange”) on any date during the Eligibility Period.
3. There will be two competitions: for Apps listed on SDL OpenExchange as “Free” and for those listed as “Paid”. One winner’s prize of €4,000 and one runner-up’s prize of €1,000 will be awarded for each of the competitions. If you are the recipient of one of these prizes and you request SDL to do so, SDL may at its sole discretion decide instead to make the payment in another currency at an exchange rate decided by SDL or in the form of vouchers redeemable against goods or services.
4. Every App submitted within the Eligible Period will automatically be eligible to win an iPad during the respective heat periods. iPads will be awarded by SDL to the Developer of the App which has the most downloads during the respective heat periods. The specification of the iPad will be at the sole discretion of SDL.
5. Every App submitted within the Eligibility Period will be automatically eligible for the relevant competition. Any App submitted which is a new version of an existing App which includes any modifications and upgrades to the exiting App shall not be eligible for the relevant competition as a separate entry. However, the award of any prize from these competitions is contingent upon your acceptance of these Terms. SDL may require you to sign or to otherwise acknowledge the applicability of these Terms before the award of a prize.
6. If you are the Developer of more than one eligible App, each such App will be separately eligible for the relevant competition and you may therefore have more than one opportunity to win a prize under one or both competitions.
7. Apps which fall into the ‘Paid’ App category cannot be discounted to free of charge during the Eligibility Period. SDL may require the developers of the winner and runner-up Apps in the ‘Paid’ competition to provide proof of App purchase.
8. Any App downloads which have been made by SDL employees will not be counted as downloads which are eligible within the relevant competition period.
9. Any App downloads made by App Developer companies or subsidiary companies will not be counted as downloads which are eligible within the relevant competition period.
10. Eligible Apps must have received 80% of its total user ratings as 3 stars and above at the end of the relevant competition period to be eligible to win or be runner-up. Apps developed by SDL or by companies owned by SDL and Apps with fewer than 20 downloads during the Eligibility Period will be excluded from consideration.
11. The Developer of winner and runner-up Apps will be notified by email during September 2012. The developer of the winning App of heat 1 will be notified by email in June 2012. The developer of the winning App of heat 2 will be notified by email in September 2012. A prize not claimed within 2 weeks may be awarded at SDL’s discretion to the next most downloaded App meeting the criteria.
12. During the competition period, SDL reserves the right to promote Apps at its discretion. If you are a winner or runner-up, SDL may: (i) include your name (but not contact details) in a list of winners and runners-up and make this list available publicly; (ii) require you to take part in a reasonable amount of promotional activity and use your name and photograph (or that of your representative, where not an individual) in publicity relating to the competitions. Any personal data relating to you or your representatives will be used solely in accordance with current UK data protection legislation. SDL will not sell or rent to anyone the personal information that you provide in connection with your claim of a prize. The SDL privacy policy on sdl.com applies.
13. The names of winners and runners-up may be requested by email to Kate Smith, Senior Marketing Executive, SDL, at katesmith@sdl.com
14. SDL reserves the right to disqualify an App which appears to SDL to infringe the intellectual property or privacy rights of others, be defamatory or otherwise problematic, or to be developed other than in full compliance with your obligations under the Registered SDL Plug-in Developer Agreement between you and SDL.
15. SDL reserves the right to disregard repeat downloads or repeat ratings of any App from an SDL OpenExchange account as well as any download or rating which it has reason to believe is made fraudulently. Duplicate downloads of the same App made by the same account number more than once will not be counted as eligible downloads. Only unique downloads will be counted as eligible downloads within the relevant competition period.
16. Prizes are non-transferable. SDL reserves the right to discontinue the competition or to substitute prizes of equal or greater value at any time.
17. The competition and these rules will be governed by English law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England. In the event of any dispute regarding these rules, conduct, results or competitions, the decision of SDL shall be final and no correspondence or discussion shall be entered into. Any taxes due on receipt of the prize will be the responsibility of the winner.
